What do the different connection types within the Transfer Status view represent?

  • Direct:
Two peers have a fast direct TCP/IP connection (usually via a LAN) and the data is transferred that way
  • Proxy:
When two peers cannot establish a direct connection, the data will be relayed via our authentication server
  • MultiProxy:
When a peer adds a file and there are two or more other peers in his "Sync Folder" (until v2.7.3 named "Filesharing Network") or "Outlook Group" (until v2.7.3 named "Outlook Network") without direct connection available, the peer will upload the file to the server once, and the server will stream it to each other online peer in the network. This saves server bandwidth and is a much faster way to sync a file because usually a peer’s upload bandwidth is the bottleneck

In addition, if Sender or Recipient states Server, then the file was stored on our authentication server and is being downloaded - or if sending, the file is being stored on our authentication server for offline peers. This is the Store and Forward functionality.
