Tip of the day: How to open a file in the Outlook menu

Did you know that you can open frequently used documents in your Outlook menu? You don’t have to clicking through your folders and of course – as always – you save much time. Let’s start!

1. Go to Tools – Customize – Commands tab

2. In the left pane (“Categories”), select New Menu

3. Now just drag with the left mouse button the command New Menu from the right pane ( “Commands”) to any place in the menu bar

4. Click the right mouse button on the new menu item and rename it (e.g. Documents). Don’t close the dialog box during your set up

5. Select File in the left pane (“Categories”) on the dialog box

6. Drag with the left mouse button the command Office Document in the empty sub-menu of the new menu item Documents. You can release the mouse button when the black bar is visible. (See picture)

7. Click the right mouse button on the new sub-menu. Give it a name (e.g. notes) and then click Assign Hyperlink – Open

8. Select the file you like to open from your Outlook menu. Confirm with OK.

9. Close the Customize dialog box

If you now click in the menu bar on Documents – Notes, you can open conveniently the file on the Outlook menu.
